Positano
Located in Campania, Italy on the Amalfi Coast is a small town known as Positano. And for travellers to this part of the world, it rates as an excellent holiday spot.
The main part of Positano sits in the hills in an enclave which leads down to the coast. While it was not always the case, the main industry in Positano today is tourism. In fact, two hotels, Le Sirenuse and II San Pietro are often listed among the best hotels in the world.
As you’re visiting Positano during your Amalfi Coast tour, be sure to visit the Blue Grotto as you’re headed to Capri. There are a couple of options for getting to Capri. You could take the ferry and then a boat the rest of the way to the Blue Grotto.
Or you could take an excursion on a boat; your boat will stop at several interesting places along Capri and ultimately stop at Blue Grotto. After spending four or five hours on the island exploring this playboy’s paradise, the boat will return you to Positano. Most visitors feel the boat excursion is the better way to see the area, rather than the ferry.
But you need to book your trip the day before it leaves if you decide on the excursion. The cost is only around 85 Euros (the Blue Grotto will cost an extra 12 Euros). The boat will then leave Positano Beach at 9 in the morning and take you on your narrated tour around the island of Capri. After this narrated tour, they will allow you to go ashore for four or five hours; just be sure to be there for pick-up at 4 p.m.
Even though Positano is a little town, there is one central area, located close to the beach that has a lot of cafes and shops for you to sample. It’s an excellent place to spend time window shopping and just generally wandering.
And then walk toward the beach or take the bus; you’ll find a convenient walkway that leads to the water. And along the walkway are many more shops, as well as some artists seeking to sell their wares. You’ll also find a few restaurants with some excellent local cuisine.
