Minori
What is it that, year after year, keeps people coming back to the small town of Minori in Italy. In reality there are things, really, first there’s the stunning scenery, after that, there’s also the heritage and history that make a holiday to this city very special.
Minori is the Amalfi Coast’s oldest holiday hangout (i.e., it serves as home to a Roman villa from the first century).
It also happens to be one of the Neapolitan Riviera’s prettiest places, with its white-washed houses and stepped streets.
In truth, Minori is a somewhat exclusive resort, and therefore you won’t find many bargains in the way of hotels or tours. Nevertheless, a trip to Minori makes a great summer holiday with a little extra sparkle.
Another great highlight of taking a holiday in Minori is lemons galore; this tangy citrus fruit has been grown in the city for eleven centuries, so the residents of Minori pride themselves on being experts concerning the fruit.
Therefore, be sure to sample a glass of one of their lemon drinks. One of the best loved is limoncello, a famous Neapolitan liqueur. Limoncello is great for rounding off dinner in one of Minori’s several trattorias.
Despite its age, today’s Minori is quite a contemporary town, with a wonderful sandy beach and nice promenade and it is found in the Amalfi Coast’s most wonderful landscape.
From within Minori, visitors can see the Basilica of St. Trofimena, built during the thirteenth century and then “modernized” in nineteenth century.
Also, just a few meters away from the beach you’ll find the fascinating ruins of a Roman villa, along the road to Amalfi. This villa was constructed in the first century and re-discovered in the early 1930s. And so in a distinctive way, Minori blends the past with a beautiful future.
