Maiori
Maiori is a much-loved resort town which was rebuilt following a devastating flood around the Tramonti Valley area. Travellers as well as locals love the town for its beach; it’s the longest you can find round around the Sorrentine Peninsula.
Maiori is shaped very distinctively in the form of a capital letter “L.” Along the beach is a promenade and road. Perpendicular to it is Corso Regina, a wide pedestrian street with restaurants, bars, stores and an occasional night-time market.
Ask someone what to do in Maori and they’re sure to respond: “Go to the beach!” It is, by far, the most popular attraction; the town has two very attractive public beach strips.
You should also stop by Giardini Palazzo Mezzacapo, which is just off Corta Regina. This is a magnificent garden complete with water fountains and there are also numerous free concerts held in the garden each summer.
You’ll find all manner of shopping especially gifts shops that do most of their business at night time on the Corsa Reginna. There are also stores where you can find exclusive designer clothing and gifts at quite affordable prices.
If you need a good place to eat, stop by Gino’s Bar Sirena, it’s perfect for a memorable lunch or drink, straggly you can also buy bus tickets at Gino’s.
If you’re a fan of festivals, there is a huge festival held every August 15 in honour of the Santa Maria. After dark, there are lots of events such as beach parties and dancing. Nothing over the top, but lots of laid-back relaxation is what you’ll find in abundance at Maiori.
